Her Story

Kayla was born in 2004 with a pound of fluid in her stomach which crushed her kidneys.

💛 Kayla is special needs but such a smart little lady with a heart of gold. Her entire life has been full of constant doctor visits! She is on PD Home Dialysis which is a struggle to get her hooked up 7 hours a day/7 days a week. She also has McKusick Kaufman Syndrome which has taken most of her eye sight.

Even though Kayla has been through so much, she gets up smiling and happy! Sadly, this past March we found her Mom had passed away in bed from a heart attack. She was Kayla’s world and Kayla hers!

Kayla is 21 years old her, mental capacity is like that of a 9 year old. She lives in Weber City, Virginia with her dad and others who help her. I am her Nana and we are going August 8, 2025 for a evaluation at University of Tennessee. Only 2 hours from us! Duke turned us down and so did UVA due to the distance.

Kidney Donor Facts

• Anyone in good health and over the age of 18 can donate.
• Donors normally resume regular activity within two weeks after donation.
• Donors can live a healthy, long life with just one kidney.
• Her insurance covers the costs of TESTING and SURGERY.
• All donor information during testing and transplant is kept private.
